There are several considerations to be made when packing for your trip to Roaring Camp Gold, but among the most important are those that are going to insure that you are well fed during your stay. That means setting up a camp kitchen. Whether staying in a tent or an RV, there are a few things that you will absolutely want to have on hand when it comes time to cook, and many others that will make the job easier and more versatile.
The Essentials
While some of this many be argued, we have found that having these items on hand make it much easier to feed yourself and your camping companions. For some, for instance, an open fire is all that is needed for preparing cooked foods, but we have found that the most successful campers are prepared to grill or have a portable propane stove on hand. A windscreen is also something that we highly recommend – something that will block the winds that seem intent on putting out your flame. If you do have a propane cooktop, you will need a bottle or two of fuel and a pot, pan, or one of each. Other items we would include on this list:
- Serving spoon
- Sharp knife
- Spray bottle (for keeping the flames at bay)
- Potholder
- Plates, bowls, or both
- Storage containers, food storage bags, or both
- Coffee mugs, water bottles, or cups of some kind
- Silverware
- Matches or a lighter
- Coolers or an RV fridge
Other Optional Items
In addition to the essential items, there are a few others that you may want to consider for convenience sake, such as a table cloth, dish soap, a sponge, and fire starter.
Other ideas include:
- Cutting board/surface
- Spatula
- Whisk
- Bottle opener or corkscrew
- Portable coffee maker
- Foil
- Drying towel
- Drying rack
- Roasting sticks
